ACTON, MASSACHUSETTS | AUGUST 19, 2026 — A 17-year-old Massachusetts teenager has been charged with two counts of murder following the deaths of his mother and younger brother at their family home in Acton.

Arjun Aravind, 17, is accused in the deaths of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind. A not-guilty plea was entered on Aravind's behalf, and he has been ordered held without bail.

According to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan, Aravind's father contacted police at approximately 6:30 p.m. on August 11 requesting a welfare check after he was unable to reach his family. A tutor who had arrived earlier for a scheduled appointment had also been unable to get inside the home.

Officers entered the Martha Lane residence and found the mother and son deceased in separate areas of the house. Prosecutors said evidence at the scene indicated that a violent physical struggle had occurred. The official cause of death had not yet been determined at the time of the initial court proceedings.

PROSECUTORS CITE CHATGPT ACTIVITY

The case has drawn widespread attention because of digital activity investigators say they discovered while examining Aravind's behaviour before the deaths.

District Attorney Ryan said Aravind had recently demonstrated concerning behaviour, including using the internet and ChatGPT to search for theoretical ideas or fantasy stories involving the killing of his family.

The alleged ChatGPT activity is being examined as evidence in the case. Its significance has not yet been determined by a court, and authorities have not publicly announced a motive.

FOUND IN MOTHER'S CAR

Authorities said Aravind left the area in his mother's Honda Accord.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on August 12, police located him inside the vehicle in a parking lot in Wayland, Massachusetts. He was taken into custody without incident.

Prosecutors later said investigators recovered items from the vehicle that they believe correspond with evidence from the family's residence.

HELD WITHOUT BAIL

Aravind appeared in Concord District Court, where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

He faces two counts of murder, along with assault-and-battery and motor-vehicle-related charges.

His defence attorney has requested a psychiatric evaluation. Aravind was ordered held without bail, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 11, 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing.
