Agency: Mumbai, April 25, 2025 — Grief hung heavy across SVKM institutions and NMIMS Deemed-to-be-University campuses today, as over 65,000 students, faculty, and staff paused their day to honor the 26 innocent lives lost in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
What was meant to be a peaceful trip for tourists turned into a national tragedy, as yet another senseless act of violence struck at the heart of innocent lives. In response, a quiet, powerful gesture unfolded across eight Indian cities — a two-minute silence, observed not just as a formality, but as a heartfelt tribute.
At NMIMS’s Vile Parle campus in Mumbai, the usually vibrant courtyards and classrooms fell still. Heads were bowed, hearts heavy. Across SVKM’s institutions — from engineering colleges to schools — the message was unified: we grieve together, and we stand for peace.
We are devastated by this tragic event, said Shri Amrishbhai Patel, Hon’ble President of SVKM and Chancellor of NMIMS Deemed-to-be-University.
Today, the entire SVKM and NMIMS family stands in mourning with the rest of the nation. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and hope for the swift recovery of those injured. Terror has no place in our society, and it is through unity and resolve that we must move forward.
The silence was more than just a moment, it was a reminder. That behind every number is a story, a family, a life interrupted. That violence, no matter where it strikes, leaves ripples far beyond.
For a community that champions education, integrity, and empathy, the tragedy struck a deep chord. Many students and faculty members shared quiet reflections, some lighting candles, others offering prayers.
More than just mourning, SVKM and NMIMS are using this moment to reaffirm their mission—to nurture compassionate, socially aware individuals who not only reject violence but actively work toward a more inclusive and peaceful future.
“We stand with every family that is grieving today,” said a student leader from NMIMS. “Even in sorrow, we must be the generation that chooses peace.”
As India reels from this brutal loss, SVKM and NMIMS send strength, prayers, and unwavering support to all those affected. In silence, they stood. In unity, they move forward.
