Ottawa, ON – October 9, 2025: Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, has urged Prime Minister Mark Carney to take decisive action on Canada’s energy infrastructure, announcing Conservative support for major projects such as the Keystone XL Pipeline. He mentioned “We are glad to hear President Trump and his administration express renewed interest in the Keystone XL pipeline. One of the first executive orders he signed in 2017 was the approval of this pipeline,” said Poilievre. “In Canada, Keystone XL was approved under a Conservative government in 2010. Prime Minister Carney should know that he will have the Official Opposition behind him if he does the right thing and gets this crucial project moving.”
Poilievre emphasized that while Keystone XL is a good start, “the job isn’t finished.” He called on Prime Minister Carney to match his own words to “think big and act bigger” by advancing new projects “at speeds we haven’t seen in generations.”
According to Poilievre, Conservatives have long been urging the Liberal government to remove barriers preventing pipeline development in Canada. “We have been calling on the Liberals to get out of the way and build pipelines in Canada for over a decade,” he said. “This cannot be one-and-done for our industry. We also need pipelines going from West to East and to our Western shores to open new markets in Asia, protect our sovereignty and give us more control over our resources.”
The Conservative Leader noted that in August, he asked the Prime Minister to get “shovels in the ground” on two major pipelines by March 14th, marking one year since taking office. He warned that none of these projects will move forward without repealing what Conservatives describe as “job and project-killing anti-development laws.”
The Conservative Party is urging the government to pass the Canadian Sovereignty Act, which would repeal Bill C-69, the Bill C-48 shipping ban, the federal production cap, and the industrial carbon tax.
“No Canadian oil will be able to flow through Keystone XL – or any other pipeline – as long as Liberal MPs continue to block Canadian oil production through these keep-it-in-the-ground Liberal laws,” said Poilievre.
He concluded by reaffirming his party’s commitment to expanding Canada’s energy capacity:
“We need to build pipelines in every direction to take Canadian oil to world markets and sell at full price. Conservatives stand ready to bring real solutions that will unleash Canada’s bountiful natural resources and bring powerful paycheques for our people.”
